Love That Lasts

34 years ago today in the small town high school of North Judson - San Pierre, Paul asked me to "go steady" with him. Remember those days.. it was the verge of the 80's. Babe I Love You by Styx was "our song". Journey, Kansas, all those 80's ballads....... Paul was the basketball player, I was the shy freshman. 34 years later our love has grown stronger than ever.

High school sweethearts rarely last and I never take our relationship for granted. I thank God everyday for how blessed we truly are. I am still amazed to hear about a friend that is going through a divorce after decades of marriage.

Life gets hard, it is not always wonderful. Paul and I have had financial hurdles, health hurdles, raising children hurdles, all the usual hurdles that one faces. We have lost loved ones and held each other in times of grief.

Life is good and we have had more good times than bad, blessings of children, blessings of  job promotions, blessings of joy and peace in life.

We have wrestled with decisions and second guessed decisions. We are always pleasantly surprised when we are so unsure about a decision and then we see how God unravels His plan in the midst of our best and worst laid plans. It reminds us that unless the Lord builds the house, those that labor, labor in vain.

God is our source, whether it seems obvious or not. God's plans are usually hidden behind the clouds and it takes a measure of our faith to walk through to the promises of God.

God has been so faithful to us. Our children have all been healthy, we are healthy, and we are so blessed. Our love for each other has held together as our family of two has grown to a family of 12!

It seems like just yesterday I was flirting with Paul in the hallway, now as I watch him hanging out on the couch I am so glad I agreed to "go with him". I love him more than ever and I love the fact that we have kept Jesus the center of our relationship!!

Thank you God for directing my steps to a wonderful husband.

I hope and pray for the same in your lives.

Love and Hugs

Heidi
